Garden
One of the main assets of our SEED Centre is its garden – a green inner city oasis that vibrantly supports the work that we do here. We first took over the site where our centre stands back in 1997. After the initial development of the garden in 1998 we operated as the Liverpool City Environment Centre, whilst
we worked towards the creation of our SEED Centre. The building work for the SEED Centre in 2006-07 meant that the garden would need to be re-developed from scratch.
Thanks to a grant by the National Lottery in 2007 we were able to recruit staff for our new SEED Centre. One of the first people we recruited was former Head Gardener at the Sultan of Oman’s London Residence, Andy Williams. Andy brought with him a wealth of experience, which was just as well, for when he arrived in 2007 there was no garden to speak of–just a large mud-filled site in need of much TLC.
In just 6 months he designed and produced a fully working, interactive garden (containing over 200 species of plant), and kitchen and roof garden allotments that have brought to life our centre’s education programme.
With an extensive garden area, a range of plant life and a wildlife pond, all managed by Andy, at the
SEED Centre children can gain vital hands-on experience; seeing plants and garden inhabitants in their natural habitat.
We can also teach children and families where their food comes from and how to grow and tend their own from seed-providing them with practical hands-on experience that impacts into their everyday lives.
In order for us to continue running our SEED Centre garden and activities we need your help. Every donation or means of support we receive is vital.
